Biographical Sketch

Dr. Henson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry. His post-doctoral training includes pediatric dentistry, as well as hospital dentistry. Prior to joining the faculty at UTHSCSA in September of 2000, he was Director of Predoctoral Pediatric Dentistry at Nova Southeastern University School of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Prior to that he was Director of Dental Services at a large public health facility in Boston, Massachusetts, as well as serving on the faculty at Boston University School of Dentistry. His appointment at UTHSCSA is in teaching, research, faculty practice, and service.

Dr. Henson is the course director of both the Special Patient Care and Conscious Sedation lecture series for the post-doctoral pediatric dentistry program. His major teaching responsibilities are clinical teaching and participation in various lecture series with both pre-doctoral students and post-doctoral residents. Dr. Henson's research interests include Early Orthopedic Intervention for Cleft Lip and Palate Infants and The Use of Lasers in Primary Tooth Pulp Therapy. He is also involved in clinical trials of various dental materials.

Dr. Henson is an active member in American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Society of Dentistry for Children, American Association for Dental Research, International Association for Dental Research, and is Secretary/Treasurer for the Pediatric Dentistry Section of the American Dental Education Association. He is currently serving as President of the San Antonio Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He is Board Eligible for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. He maintains an active pediatric dental practice in the Dental Faculty Practice Clinic.
